German rex - jättipentue
Pienen pieni Lotti-mamma (Saxonys-Charlotta vom Batu) saattoi maailmaan 12.5. jättipentueen, peräti yhdeksän pentua. Pari viikkoa on jo kulunut ja kaikki hyvin. Pitää varmaankin alkaa uskoa, että kaikki jaksavat kasvaa oikeiksi kissanpennuiksi, isä Scherzo mouruaa ylpeänä.
Pennut olivat kaikki syntyessään kiharaturkkisia, niin kuin oli oletettavaakin, koska molemmat vanhemmat ovat kiharaturkkisia german rexejä.		 26.5.2006 Gigantic  German Rex  litter
The small Lotti (Saxonys-Charlotta vom Batu) gave on 12.5. birth to a gigantic litter of 9 kittens. Two weeks has passed and everything is OK. We have to believe, that all of them will grow to be real kittens pappa Scherzo proudly meaows.
All kittens had a curly coat when born as would be expected, since both parents are curly German Rexes.
Kuukausia on kulunut, kevät koittanut, vaikka se tänä vuonna onkin ollut pahasti myöhässä. Vielä voi siellä täällä pohjoisen ja varjon puolella sekä notkelmissa nähdä lunta, paikoin paksultikin..
Jokikatin nuoriso on löytänyt itselleen kukin oman kotinsa: Rothbart ja Gustav muuttivat yhteiseen osoitteeseen Espooseen, Amelie lähti Saksaan ja vanhemmista cornareista Jalohaukka ja Sorcerer muuttivat  yhdessä Helsinkiin. Suruiltakaan ei ole säästytty, sillä ensimmäinen cornish reximme Hottikatti päätti maallisen vaelluksensa alkukeväästä lähes yhdeksän vuoden ikäisenä.
Saksasta  Tatjana Tauschilta meille muutti  punainen  poika Esmeraldo, joka ystävystyi välittömästi Ribbingin kanssa ja nyt pojat rymyyttävät pitkin huushollia niin, että tavarat lentelevät (hups, mitä tapahtui!).
13.3. Kappalalle ja Sumulle syntyi pentuja. Kolme poikaa: musta, ruskea tiikeri ja puna-valkoinen. Hiukan meitä jännitti, koska tämä oli ensimmäinen B-veriryhmän naaraan pentue meillä. Vuorokauden verran toiset naaraat hoitivat pentuja ja Kappala keräsi voimia synnytyksen jälkeen. Yhä edelleen pojilla on monta hoitajaa, joista jokainen on aivan vakuuttunut siitä, että ne ovat juuri hänen pentujaan.		 22.4.2006
 Months have passed, the spring is coming although much later as usual. Thick layer of snow can still be seen shaded spots on slopes facing north.
All the yuongsters of Jokikatin have found themselves a home their own. Rothbart and Gustav moved to the same address in Espoo close to Helsinki, Amelie left to Germany and of the older cornish rexes Jalohaukka and Sorcerer moved together to Helsinki. There have been sad moments too, as our very first cornish rex Farukin Too Hot to Trot passed over the rainbow bridge early this spring at the age of nearly nine years.
The red boy Esmeraldo moved to us from Tatjana Tausch in Germany. Esmeraldo made immediately friends with Ribbing and now the boys are running around the house dropping things (oops, what happened?)
Kappala and Sumu had babies on 13.3. Three boys: black, brown mackerel and red white. We were slightly excited as Kappala has blood type B. Other females took care of the kittens for the first 24 hours and Kappala recovered after giving birth to the kittens. The boys still have many nannies, each of whom is convinced that the kittens are hers.
Jokikatin Scherzo, german rex uros, valmistui championiksi Turussa. Pitkä ja kivinen on germanin ura näyttelyissä. Onnea "pikku" Scherzo.

 Jokikatin Scherzo, a German Rex male, became Champion in Turku, Finland. A show career  full of hardships. Congratulations "little" Scherzo.

We desided today to take a picture of Rothbart's profile. That is an easy thing to do: Put a cat on a table and shoot a picture. Here are the results.

Good news from Germany

Locki Jokikatin of Suomi, whos registration was refused in Finland, became in Germany her first CAC and got a very good judgement. See Show results.

Jokikatin SwanQueen Odette oli tuomarin paras SUROKin Järvenpään näyttelyssä lauantaina 29.10. Kilpailu oli kova ja kilpakumppanit kauniita. Sunnuntaina 30.10. Odette siirtyi nuortenluokkaan ja sai siellä Ex 1:nsä.

Jokikatin SwanQueen Odette CRX f 09 was NOMINATED for best in show by Marie Westerlund on saturday 29.10 on the SUROK show in Järvenpää (Finland). There were over 700 cats of which 45 Cornish Rexes. It was a tough competition and the competitors were beautiful.

On sunday Odette moved to the kittens 6-10 months class and received her excellent 1.

Tämä viikko on tuonut vain surullisia uutisia.

Saksalainen german rex -kasvattajaystävämme on sairastunut vakavasti.  Siegfried-kasvattimme, joka ehti asua uudessa kodissaan vajaa pari kuukautta, on menehtynyt.

This week is full of bad news.

Our German Rex breeder friend from Germany has become seriously ill.

Having lived in his new home for just two months, Siegfried has passed away.
Luihu ja Pelle eli Jokikatin LittleSwan'sDance ja Keksijä Leonardo kävivät kylässä. Kyllä olivat lapset kasvaneet parissa kuukaudessa. Ja mitkä turkit heillä olikaan. Kiitos Monna ja Oona hyvästä hoidosta.

 LittleSwan'sDance and Keksijä Leonardo visited us. The babys had really grown in a couple of months. And what a coat they had! Thank you Monna and Oona for taking good care of the babies.
Yritimme ottaa valokuvia Maskenin ja Sumun pennuista, mutta tuloksena oli kolmekymmentä käyttökelvotonta otosta. Pitää yrittää paremmalla ajalla uudelleen.

We tried to take pictures of the kittens of Masken and Sumu, but the result was 30 unuseable photos.  Better luck next time.

German rexien erikoisnäyttelyssä Dresdenissä

Kolme Jokikattia muutti Saksaan

Kävimme german rexien erikoisnäyttelyssä Dresdenissä. Ajoimme sinne läpi Viron, Latvian, Liettuan ja Puolan. Olimme päivän myöhässä aikataulusta mennen tullen, sillä Latviassa ja Puolassa oli käynnissä kymmenien ja taas kymmenien kilometrien tietyöt. Se pari vuotta sitten valmistunut Via Baltican osa Saulkrastin ja Riian välillä on kaivettu pohjia myöten auki. Osittain liikenne on ohjattu kiertoteille, osittain ajetaan pari sataa metriä yhtä kaistaa, pysähdytään punaisiin valoihin odottamaan vastaantulevaa liikennettä, ajetaan taas pari sataa metriä ja jälleen odotellaan punaisissa valoissa vastaantulijoita.

Menomatkalla oli tarkoitus yöpyä Liettuassa, ajaa loppumatka virkeänä Dresdeniin, johon piti saapua perjantai-iltana. Olimme suunnitelleet pestä kissat vasta perillä, jotta ne varmasti olisivat puhtaita.  Ensimmäisenä yönä torkuimme pari tuntia autossa ja jatkoimme kiireesti matkaa. Perille saavuimme noin kello kolme yöllä, kun näyttelyn eläinlääkärintarkastus alkoi jo seitsemältä.

Saksalaiset ystävämme olivat meitä vastassa, kello kolme yöllä! Siitä kiitos heille. He kävivät myös hakemassa meiltä kissat seitsemän aikaan ja veivät ne näyttelypaikalle. Lelan pesimme yöllä, mutta germanit saivat vain pikaisen kuivapesun ja korvien putsauksen.

Lela kuitenkin pääsi paneeliin ja Scherzo sai sertinsä.

Pressa (Preiset die Tage) ja Lokki (Frohlocket) todettiin rotutarkistuksessa german rexeiksi. Pressa muutti Ilona Jänicken luokse, Lokki Kordula Möhlen talouteen ja Toccata isoäitinsä kasvattajan Petra Heinin perheeseen.

Yhtä asiaa kauhistuimme todella. Ylitimme rajan 10 kertaa. Passimme ja auton rekisteriote tarkastettiin, tosin vain vilkaisulla, mutta kissojen rabiesrokotuksista tai muistakaan papereista ei kukaan ollut kiinnostunut. Miten helppoa onkaan salakuljettaa se rabiestartunnan saanut "ihana, koditon" kissa tai koira Suomeen.

German Rex Special Show in Dresden
Three cats from Jokikatin moved to Germany

We attended the German Rex Special Show in Dresden . We drove there through Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. We were a day behind our schedule in both directions, as there were tens and tens kilometres of road works in Latvia and in Poland. Finished just couple of years ago, the section of the Via Baltica between Saulkrasti and Riga had been dug up completely. There was a detour, but also a lengthy bit of a few hundred metres of 2 lanes, traffic lights controlling a single-lane section ahead, another two-lane section and so worth. And if you miss the green light, you have to wait 5 minutes, even in the dead of the night.

On the way out were supposed to stop overnight in Lithuania and then continue rested to Dresden, where we planned to arrive on Friday evening. We had planned to wash the cats after arrival to make sure they are clean. During the 1st night we slept a couple of hours in the car, and then drove hurriedly on. We arrived in Dresden at 3 o'clock in the morning, and the vet control at the show started already at 7.

Our German friends met us at 3 in the morning! Thank you, dear friends. They also picked up the cats at 7 and took them to the show hall. We washed Lela at night, but the Germans were given a quick dry cleaning, and the ears were cleaned.

Lela was, however, nominated and Scherzo got his certificate.

Pressa (Preiset die Tage) and Lokki (Frohlocket) were determined to be German Rexes. Pressa moved to Ilona Jänicke, Lokki to Kordula Möhle's household and Toccata to Family Hein who bred her grandmother.

We found one thing really alarming; we crossed a border 10 times. Our passport and the car document were given a glance, but no one was interested in the cats' rabies vaccinations or any other documents.
How easy it would be to smuggle into Finland the "lovely, homeless" cat or dog infected with rabies.
